Waiting in the Pool
Once you submit an Express Entry profile, the waiting game begins. But passively waiting is dangerous. Here is what you actually need to do to improve your odds and protect your profile from abruptly expiring.
The Danger of "Set and Forget"
Your Express Entry profile is valid for exactly one year. More importantly, factors like your age, language test scores, and work experience can change month-to-month, silently altering your CRS score.
Stop guessing your CRS changes
Create a free Canadian PR Ledger account to seamlessly track how your CRS score evolves over time, plan your documentation accurately, and stop relying on messy spreadsheets.
1. Watch your test expirations
IELTS, CELPIP, TEF, and TCF scores are only valid for two years. If your test expires while you are in the pool, your profile becomes automatically ineligible and is removed from the system. Track the exact date they expire.
2. Learn French (The Cheat Code)
IRCC is heavily prioritizing French-speaking candidates with category-based draws. Even achieving NCLC 7 in French can drastically lower the CRS cutoff you need or open doors to massive PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) opportunities like Ontario's French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream.
3. The "Age-Out" Penalty
Your CRS score begins dropping heavily once you turn 30, losing 5 points every birthday, and dropping even faster past 40. Keep a close eye on your birthday and calculate exactly when you need a backup plan (like PNP or retaking a language test) to offset those lost points.
