Language tests for Express Entry
Your CRS score depends on CLB levels in four abilities. IRCC accepts specific English and French tests — not every variant sold by test centres counts.
English tests
IELTS General Training
The most widely used English test for Express Entry. You need General Training — not Academic — for immigration.

Common pitfalls
- IELTS Academic does not replace General Training for economic immigration.
- CELPIP-LS is not the same as CELPIP-General for Express Entry.
- PTE Core is IRCC-specific — PTE Academic is a different product.
- Tests expire after two years — retake before your profile or ITA window lapses.
